Hermana Oram
Hola, My name is Sydney Oram. I am have been called to serve in the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission.
Well this week was better we are working way hard and going to parts of our area in the middle of nowhere and we are walking a tonnnn!!! But I am so happy!! Every time I get all bummed our or anything I am like hold up the only person who wants me upset or discouraged is Satan and I am sure not going to let him win haha but this week I ate some wacky stuff!!!! First off a fish head and I was so starving I ate allllll of the fish head (there is a lot of edible parts to a fish head haha) and then I was sitting there with two eyeballs and I thought well I could eat these too and I might as well if this pobre pobre family is going to give us food...so I ate the eyeballs they were actually really good a little chewy but good flavor. Then one day at lunch Hermana Alonzo (she has the gift aka parasites but they are gone now a bunch of people in our zone have some parasites but I’m good) wasn’t feeling too good and we were eating this bean soup and there was a bunch of weird meat and in each bowl a huge slab of what looked like a cow tongue or a pig stomach we couldn’t tell but being the good companion I am I told her that I would eat all her meat and cow tongue slash pig stomach so I ate like a ton of this chewy, chewy meat and after I asked our cook what it was and she said ohhhhhh just a bunch of different cow and pig parts ...................... real comforting! But seriously everything tastes so good! Still crossing my fingers that no one is going to offer me tuna sandwich, that’s where I draw the line!! But we are finding so many people. We challenged 26 people to baptism last week and had almost 50 lessons!! I am finally starting to have a personality in Spanish!! Its a little tricky when all my vocab is just from Preach my Gospel but I am starting to catch on to all the catracha phrases!

I am so sorry I couldn’t write last week we couldn’t find Internet at all! Oh man it was hard to go 2 weeks! Well we didn’t have a baptism Saturday we are literally cursed every time we get close with an investigator there parents go all wack and its a mess. But a good long cry in the Honduran forest sure puts things in perspective and I know that our investigators will find the gospel and make the sacred covenants of baptism soon just now isn’t the time. Oh but I would like to thank the dumb elders who didn’t ask the age of our new friend Berlin and baptized her when she was 7! So now that she is 9 and her family is active again she needs a new baptism so we are going to help her out with that haha! The past two weeks have been pretty rough actually it is just hard to work and work and work all day and not see any fruits but we need to work harder and everything is in the Lords time! But good news we have food!!! We found the sister of our old cocinera and she is cooking for us now and it is wayyy better food!!! Oh but every house we have gone to the last weeks keeps asking if Hermana Alonzo and I are getting fat because we look gorditas! But we did eat a huge pot of fettuccine alfredo that a member made for us on valentines day it was probably not the healthiest thing to eat but it was soo good and was my first meal without a tortilla in 3 months!!! Oh and this week we went to San Antonio Oriente a tiny little town in the mountains that literally looks like an old western town! It was a mining town in like 1850 or something and the houses are so old and cute and there are like cobblestones roads and everything!! Well everything is good apparently I am getting mas gordita and mas negrita and am on my way to being a true Honduran!!
I love you all and am so sorry that I couldn’t write last week!! Hermana Oram Okay the water here (when we have water) smells like bleach and literally stings well it stings because I have bug bites all over my back and legs I think there is bed bugs in my bed because I am constantly itching all night and wake up with more bites every day, so that’s cute!!! OH, and everyday we take Pepto shots because my stomach is thrashed from the Honduran restaurants we have to eat at because we don’t have anyone to cook for us still, but hopefully soon, we have some prospects!! Oh and my hands are turning brown!!!!!! Not because I am getting tanner but because something with the pesticides and the potatoes but it always looks like I have a ton of dirt on my hands but really it is just some weird side effect of the potatoes here. But for the record I am getting tanner! This week we got some new investigators which is always good!!! We focused a lot on retention this week too because there are so many people who don’t go to church!!!!! WE WILL FIND YOU! But overall everything is going good! We got a new family which is real exciting!!! Oh one really frustrating difficult thing that happens literally everyday is this...
Me: “Can you read this verse from the Book of Mormon” (after 20 minutes of talking about how reading the Book of Mormon can bless your life) Almost every person: “I can’t read......” Me:”...............Bueno.......well I guess I will read this verse. And what does this verse talk about?” Almost every person: “.....ummmm God...” So yeah, we are educating Honduras here one verse at a time! Oh, I know how to make flour tortillas, corn tortillas, and tamales now so when I get back to the states I am opening up a tortilleria!!!!! I suggested we start selling tortillas to find more investigators but Hermana Alonzo shut me down. I think that people would listen more if we fed them first, but maybe not. I love you all oh read Hebrews 11 I love, love this chapter and the JST for verse 40 is seriously the best!!!!! Peace, Hermana Oram |
