I love you all
Hermana Oram
Hola, My name is Sydney Oram. I am have been called to serve in the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission.
This week was super good! (haha i feel like I say that every week). But we had stake conference with Elder Alonso from the seventy and it was super good. This stake conference we took our investigator Francis! We found her the craziest way. Well, one day I was like "hey lets go up through the straight up jungle to visit a menos activo!" We usually take the street but I wanted to check out the jungle. Well we started walking and it was wayyyy longer than I thought it would be, and I was starting to get a little worried because it was super solo but we passed a part where a woman was crossing the stream in front of us. We passed her without even thinking to talk to her but I got a strong feeling to go back and talk to her because if we were going to pass anyone in the jungle we should talk to them at least. Well the woman was Francis Oneyda and she was super positive and said we could teach her the following day. We taught her 1 lesson and she was super positive and said that elders had come and taught her a few years back but for one reason or another she didn’t get baptized, but now she is prepared and she is going to get baptized 13 de Junio. She is super bueno and always ready to go to church and shares the gospel with her family and her family is super awesome too. They heard me coughing and came out with a cup of lemon honey tea concoction that totally cured me! Hondurans are so nice! I am so happy to be where I am, and I love what I am doing, and I am so grateful for the influences of the spirit it am able to receive. I know that I have a million things to improve, but I have changed a ton I feel like haha!
I love you all Hermana Oram

Well this week all my prayers were answered in such strange ways heavenly Father definitely has a sense of humor here in good ole Zamorano!! Well my comp and i are practically best buddies now and I am super sad for changes because we have gotten super close this last week. Well it started Wednesday when we walked out the house shut the door and put the locked the lock on the door and went to unlock the gate in our front yard to leave well i asked my comp if she had her keys because it was her day (we switch every other day phone and keys to share the power haha) well we got to the gate and she didn’t have the keys she left them on the table in our house. So we were locked out of our house and locked in our front yard and had no way to leave because all is super safe and we have a ton of barbed wire and our window have metal bars and the whole shebang so after 30 minutes trying to bust open the door got an idea and found some branches that we tied together with pieces of trash that people threw in our yard and we used the branch to squeeze through the tiny hole in the window to get the keys of the table well it took a ton of focus and I literally couldn’t stop laughing at how stupid we looked breaking in to our own house and tons of people were passing by watching. Well, I went over by the pila and started praying when my comp yelled saying that she got the keys well an hour later we got the door open with little damage. But it was super funny and we were laughing all day all week so we went and bought a huge chocolate cake to celebrate getting the keys out of the house. the cake was good. Other prayer answered well I have been praying for weeks and weeks that my last Sunday in Zamorano the chapel would be so full that there wouldn’t be enough chairs for everyone. Well I didn’t think that yesterday would be my last Sunday in Zamo because there is still a week until changes but we got to the church and there were a lot of people but not like a ton but like 10 minutes after the meeting started more and more people started filling in, including a menos activo I have been trying to get to church for 6 months, I was so happy and the funny thing was that there wasn’t enough chairs for everyone!!!! Well the thing was that president let a members borrow a bunch of chairs and she still hadn’t returned them so there weren’t enough chairs for everyone and then president announced that there is stake conference next week so we will be in Tegus so according to my prayer yesterday was my last Domingo in Zamorano but I don’t know still because they call for cambios next week but God answers prayers even if it is in really funny ways! I love, love beautiful Zamorano and it is super cold and perfect right now I sleep with a bunch of blankets and a sweatshirt!
But we have been working a ton with less active members and yesterday a ton were in the chapel!! Oh and I found coconut soda and it is literally the best thing i have tasted in my life 100000 times better that Dr. Pepper. Peace and Blessings Say your prayers. Hermana Oram This week was like Christmas! Seriously getting to call home is like one of the best things in the mission! That and getting an investigator to come to church. Every once in a while we can convince them that church is good and God wants them to go but the majority just thinks that it is a waste of time. It’s really sad. But this last week was super good we found a Peruvian restaurant in our area. Its kind of far but there are like 0 options for food so we will take anything we can find. It hasn't rained much this week, which is good for my wet bed, but bad because it is super hot and humid without rain. But it is super good. We have some investigators that are super awesome! The crazy thing is almost everyone has been taught here by missionaries at one point in there lives but we are coming in 5 years later and harvesting the souls...hopefully. The craziest thing here is all the fireflies at night its like a billion stars floating around it is super pretty!!! This week we got a new branch president and he is super pilas and has the cutest little wife. They are super awesome they have only been in the branch 2 weeks, but they give callings fast here haha!! I love Honduras and Zamorano and being a missionary heck ya it is super hard some days especially when it has been 6 months and I have literally talked to almost everyone in this pueblito! Seriously my street contacting skills are better than the girls in Buckle no one can get past me without hearing a little bit about Jesus! And now we have started to challenge people to baptism in the street it is actually pretty effective because we can know immediately if they really are going to progress or just want to use us for our messages of Jesus. But really some people just want to use us so they can have a gringa friend and a free book to read. But I love this work and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Oh but huge disappointment of the week they don’t even know what CInco de Mayo is so I was a little upset to not eat some good tacos or something on the 5th, but it is all good I can wait until next year.
I love you all hug your moms and say your prayers. Hermana Oram For my 6 months I ate 6 chocobananos Super short email today, but I am super excited to talk with her on Sunday!! Just got the news that we only get 40 minutes to talk :( (Good thing Syd talks fast)
"Well it is pouring rain here and I have a hole in our tin roof above my bed so all my clothes got wet and well the dirt roads are like rivers, literally. I have never seen anything so crazy!!" |
